I can soooo recommend 'Varjak Paw' by S F Said. It's a kid's book, but it's bloody excellent. I read it in an afternoon and now want to get the sequel. Just thinking that if you like Angela Carter and Gaiman then you would like this one.
Do you like historical fiction at all? My current favourite author is Phillippa Gregory and se's written a dozen or so books.
(and I compulsivley read Gordon Ramsey's autobiography in a day at Christmas too - just couldn't put it down once I started!)

i used to read historical fiction ages ago, there's this finnish author called Mika Waltari who's written some brilliant stuff. i think only The egyptian has been translated which is good but not as good as Johannes Angelos. will check out Phillippa Gregory too!

Anyway, what genres of books do you enjoy most Miss Bunster? There are loads that I love, but if you enjoy different types then they might leave you cold.

oh ans fiction-wise also prolly worth mentioning that stephen king hasn't so far impressed me hugely, but i guess gaiman, pratchett etc. are vaguely in the same genre so go figure.
