i am absolutely perplexed and vexed at the amount of ignorance to the truth surrounding the majority of christian publishings and teaching

first off have you concidered being a paster? you are right no one is perfect, and there is no way that any of us can become perfect. and it pisses me off when people preach to us about being perfect and striving to be perfect, because in all reality it is impossible.
you're right, none of us can be perfect in the flesh
There is no way to acheive complete perfection in this body, because the nature of this body is that of the nature of sin.
BUT there is a way you can become more perfect. If you allow god to use the holy spirit to work through you, you can become more and more perfect as your understanding in god grows. The only reason why this is possible though, is because god is doing a work in you. no man will become any better in the sight of god by his own power. The minute you try to improve yourself by your own power, you're going to fail. thats what the holy spirit is all about.
All men fall short of the glory of god, but if we're always striving to be more perfect and allow the spirit to reside in us, we will not desire to sin, and the part of us that is driven by fleshlike desires will grow smaller and smaller. So, to be a serious christian you DO have to strive to be perfect just, not by your own means, by gods grace.
