My mother is watching CSI, again. Just like she does every night. It's too sad. As much as I enjoy tv shows, I don't want to grow up and end up doing that every night. However, an Ian Brown song came on during the episode which I love and so I figured I'd post it here ( Read more... )

I think that if you don't act at least slightly "selfishly" then you end up in more pain for it. Concerning yourself with others and taking on their burdens is one thing but to neglect yourself for that sake is to consciously choose not only the color and shape of your cross but, with your left hand, nail the right one to the wood.

There's an odd emphasis in contemporary culture on being the good Samaritan. However, this desire gets cross pollinated with the idea of narcissism and how it affects your intentions, as if your intentions must always match up with your actions in being one hundred percent positive. The fact of the matter is that all of our actions are, in some way, motivated by a concern for our self. That being the case, embrace it.

If you live your life for others then you might end up not having a life of your own.
