i had to laugh at the fact that my may 3rd entry fell under 'recent' posts.
there should be 'recent' as in the last couple of weeks.
and then 'yo! it's LIVE journal' write some damn posts ... AS THEY HAPPEN
you see, the last couple of quarters have been like falling into a black hole... and not the freaky disney 'black hole' visions of hell ... but a torrent of events all seeming to take an eternity to emerge, but then are gone in an instant. i'm afraid my posts, bent back through some sort of near-to-graduation time-dilation filter would still come out something like
"arrrDAMNNrenderrenderrenderSANSGRIArendernonmanifoldgeometry?wtfIneedajobARRR"
though, slightly more 'ARR'
so, where to start? no freakin' clue... there's no beginning, no end... let's just dive in.
school...
freakin' awesome. gary oliveri - who works out at midway games in chicago - is a modeling god. i learned more from him about character modeling in 3 weeks than i did the previous 2 quarters combined. in fact, i had to UN-learn so much shite that i'd say i learned even more. anyone interested in 3d character modeling, his book should be coming out towards the end of the year.
ever since i 'freelanced' on a project a couple of quarters back (sadly, still not finished)other people at school have been asking me to do their lighting and environment modeling. one of them i believe is heading towards completion and will probably be entered in a small animation short-film contest.
it's been a great experience in all, bringing into focus something that i saw happening from afar for the last year but always knew i'd finally embrace. the other cool thing is that i spoke with the guy from Midway and he seemed encouraing towards the prospects of applying with them after i graduate. after this coming quarter - when i can get some more high-quality renders together - i think i'll hit them up for an internship.
film...
cranking along, kicking screaming into being.
'the power in words' has been approved by the DMP (digital media production) department at my school for a senior thesis project, meaning it now has more official life and an actual timeschedule to completion.
the script is nearly in its final form, shooting script and storyboards should be done in the next few weeks. once that's finished we start up an open casting call and begin scouting locations. and... we have our first official producer (aka MONEY)!
it's amazing how much this has taken on a life of its own.
what started out as something nudging at 15-minutes tops, is probably going to be twice that in the end. and all the better for it, oddly enough.
another great learning experience... which actually fits into my career orientation. digital set design and layout dovetails well with lighting and environment modeling, no?
what else...?
still scouting for a make up arist, set designer and costumer. but, the music is set, we have a composer onboard.
hopefully, this all turns out better than the events in 'lost in la mancha'
but i have a feeling it will
'life' ...
h. an old friend of mine from a2 is moving to chicago! which means someone else in this city who appreciates music and isn't afraid to dance. been waaay too freakin' long.
&c...
designed new business cards. still working on a logo for the production company behind the film
*finally* got around to printing our real labels for san[s]gria ... just in time for the summer peak in demand...
'vacation'...
3 weeks off! w00t!
sleep...sleep...more sleep. punctuated with rounds of san[s]gria
