there are a few places i could suggest -
there are two used book stores on Division St in Northfield, and one new book store
there is a used bookstore in downtown Hastings
in Minneapolis, you may be able to do something with DreamHaven - located in uptown (or they could make a recommendation)
and in St Paul, check out Midway Books at Snelling and University

I like Uncle Hugo's Science Fiction Bookstore. The used books are half off their new cover price, and I have often been able to find what I'm looking for. Best of all, they're the only science fiction bookstore in the country, I think. And if you really need it, and they don't have it used, they probably have it new.

Of course, now that I have a kindle I've not been in a physical bookstore in months.

I love Magers & Quinn and Booksmart both in Minneapolis Uptown on Hennepin near Lake (one is just South of Lake and one is just North). I like them both because they are independent and have very huge selections. They both also carry some has new books. Plus the customer service at both is really good. And M&Q has a sub-specialty in old maps which is kind of cool.

I second this rec. (I think the map part of M&G has moved to another location though).

Also, the various Half Price Books locations also have great deals.
