The marathon between the Soviets and the Americans was truly an ordeal greater than its actual face value.  Along a cursory inspection, this competition seems to be rather abrupt.  However, it was just the flames of a fire, which sparked long before the space race. Over time, certain conflicts and societies’ general attitudes spurred the government to find and pursue a matter that could be easily tackled.  This is referred to as the “space race.”

The origins of this triathlon started just a few scores ago.  It started the inkling instances involved with World War Two.  Germany and the Soviets formed an alliance.  Because their political and governmental philosophies are on nearly opposite of each other, this aroused great suspicion amongst Americans.  With a foreshadowing of war, the Americans found themselves indulging in extreme nationalism.  This is when the Americans truly found themselves striving to be better than all others.  However, after the Second World War, new technology was prevailing.  The Soviets found themselves working on bombs to compete with the American’s monstrous atomic bombing of southern Japan.  The Americans found them working on rocket-propelled weapons and vehicles to surpass the Soviets, although it was the Americans who first developed the first jet propelled airplanes towards the end of World War Two.

During the midst of the jet-propelled rockets and bombs, a contest between the two super powers was formulating.  The world record for speed of an airplane was beginning to raise questions.  This gala was nearly a tie.  Each country found themselves setting newer and better records, expecting the other to rebound against.  While the United States Air Force, as well as the government, got caught up in the air races, the Soviets turned their attention to something of a greater scale.
