First off, I want to say that if anyone ever plans to go to Ozzfest get the Party Like A Rock Star package...it may be $300, but it is so worth it. You get your own viewing from Second Stage [which is a platform] & it is air conditioned & it's shaded, you get VIP access to your bathrooms, food, & sitting area which all of these are shaded, & you get a Backstage Tour which is awesomeee. We plan on getting the PLARS package every year from now on.
Second Stage
All That Remains [9:10-9:30am]- Didn't get to see them because our PLARS tickets weren't working so we had to go from place to place so someone could fix them & my brother had to call Big Dave to inform him about meeting Ozzy. I heard them & they sounded good...I really wanted to see them so I was pretty mad.
The Red Chord [9:35-9:55am]- We were getting our laminates for the PLARS which took forever because people kept telling us different places to go, but when we finally got them...Joseph & Ashley bought their CD to meet Distured & I bought my CD to meet Atreyu. Candace from Walls Of Jericho joined in for a song & it made the crowd go wild.
Strapping Young Lad [10:00-10:20am]- I didn't like them when I first heard them, but I slowly started enjoying them. We were standing on the PLARS platform & I seen this guy come up there with no badge or nothing so I was like hmmm...he looks familiar & then he smiled & waved at me...I was like OMGOSH that is Phil from All That Remains...I ran up to my mom and I was like...gosh, he's so hot isn't he??? She was like yeah, he was alright & then I kept watching him IN SHOCK because he was acting like nothing was wrong so we were just sitting there watching him...haha. Then, he left & Joseph was like man, we should've got a picture with him so I was bummed because we didn't.
Between The Buried And Me [10:25-10:45am]- They were awesome, as always :)
Walls of Jericho [10:50-11:10am]- They were amazing...I really enjoyed their whole performance. They are my favorite female vocalist group. I couldn't believe how many pits & crowd surfers were when they performed.
Full Blown Chaos [11:15-11:35am]- They were good from what I saw.
Bad Acid Trip [11:40am-12:00pm]- I do not like them, but the lead singer was so funny. He had me cracking up...he said If anyone meets Bush, please slap him in the fucking face for me & everyone started cheering. THIS is when Phil came back to the platform...Joseph& I both asked for a picture...he was super nice. Did I mention hot as well? I haven't seen a 30-year old that hot in a long time...he had his nipples pierced...OH GOSH...he was sexyyyy.
Me with Phil &
Joseph with Phil A Life Once Lost [12:05-12:25pm] One of the best performances all day. There were two crazy Wall of Deaths during just one song. As you can see in the picture, that was one of the Wall of Deaths.
Norma Jean [12:30-1:00pm]- They really surprised me...they did 349824384x better than what I expected. Great performance.
Bleeding Through [1:05-1:35pm]- They were one of the best performances I seen on the second stage. They were awesome...woohoo to the girl keyboardist!
Unearth [1:40-2:10pm]- Awesome pits, they did great with the crowd...I enjoyed them thoroughly.
Atreyu [2:15-2:55pm]- I wanted to see this band more than any other band, but I wasn't able to...I did hear them & they did amazing from what I heard. I was on the Backstage Tour which was awesome.
Ed gave us the backstage tour & he was one cool dude. We got to go on the main stage & take a picture [as you can see in my pictures on here],
System of a Downs' drum kit which is worth $150-200,000...it was the most beautiful drum kit I've ever seen,
the tour buses, but I don't know whos' buses they were,
this was part of Avenged Sevenfolds' set, the only reason I took this pic was because I knew more than half of the people on my list like them...doesn't mean I like them,
Chris of Lacuna Coil & he gave all of either a guitar or bass pic. It was an awesome tour.
While we were on tour, my brother slapped me on the arm & said I'M MEETING OZZY RIGHT NOW & I've never seen him that happy/excited before in my life. My brother got to me Ozzy & Sharon Osbourne, Zakk Wylde, & a few others.
James with Ozzy &
James with Big Dave Black Label Society [3:05-3:45pm]- I was meeting
Atreyu and Joseph&Ashley were meeting
Disturbed. I met Distured in Ozzfest 2003. Zakk Wylde is the greatest guitar player & he's awesome so everyone knows that... I enjoyed the new songs, but really loved the old ones, such as Stillborn and Bleed for Me. The body surfing was intense for their set.
Ozzy Osbourne [4:00-4:50pm]- I was concerned when I heard about Ozzy playing on the Second Stage, but afetr experiencing it, I really feel that it was pure genius. The man was loose, lucid, and laughing like a teenager. It was great to see him that way. I mean, he didn't even bother with the eye makeup. Robert Blasko is a tremendous addition on bass, and of course Mike Bordin was his usual steady, but brilliant self. Zakk is great with BLS but I feel that his natural habitat is by Ozzy's side. He too seemed so happy to see Ozzy in such top form and, after his solo, Ozzy came running out like a proud father after his son hits a home run and wins the game. Overall, phenomenal.
Main Stage
Dragon Force [4:55-5:20pm]- This is when we took another break to eat & rest up in the VIP area. I heard they sucked though. They are amazing at guitar though.
Lacuna Coil [5:25-6:00pm]- They really know how to work the stage as a unit, and their singers--Christina and Andrae each bring something unique to the table. They've got a great sense of style, too. Personally, I thought they were better the last time I saw them. Chris threw out guitar pics & Joseph caught one.
Hatebreed [6:05-6:55pm]- Joseph & I were going to take a break, but I'm glad we didn't. They were one of the best bands of the day. It was the biggest pit I've ever seen on the Main Stage before. The singer whipped the audience into a frenzy all the way back to the lawn. He was also extremely gracious and seemed truly honored to have made it to the main stage after the band had paid their dues on second stage for four years. They kicked ass.
Avenged Sevenfold [7:00-7:40pm]- Personally, I thought they sucked & a lot of other did as well. They don't belong on Ozzfest & only like two people were standing up for them...some people in the pit were all acting crazy for them. I think they relaized quickly they weren't welcomed because at the end on their performance they were like, "Thanks for listening to us even if you all hate us." I do have to say that they did do a good job with the cover of Panteras' "Walk"...the lead singer of Bleeding Through joined them in it.
Disturbed [7:55-9:05pm]- We are longtime Disturbed fans, but nothing could have prepared us for how good they actually were at this show. 10,000 Fists in the Air was more than just a song on this particular night! The majority of the crowd loved them form beginning to end. We were brought to our feet several time and had a hard time deciding between watching the big screens and the action on stage. (Speaking of stage--they had a graeat stage set, lighting, and effects). Some have complianed about Dave Draiman's preachiness--but we take it that music is a form of expression, and expressing your feelings is something we are able to do here freely in America. It is sometimes more patriotic to show displeasure with your government that just blindly follow a leader. We think this was what he was saying. Dan Donigan showed that he still has the "crunch" and had one of the best guitar sounds of the night. The bands interactions with each other were also great to see. They are one of the best groups I've ever seen. I was screaming my lungs out & singing to every word. I broke down crying during Prayer because it is such an emotional song & it made me let our all of the fustrations I've had this past year.
System Of A Down [9:20-10:50pm]- THE BEST BAND OF THE DAYYYYY. Oh my gosh, did they surprise me. Serg's charged vocals, Shavo's action-packed antics, Daron's virtuoso guitar licks, and John's outrageously powerful drumming made this an act other bands will be trying to live up to for years to come. Perhaps as the tour wound down, and they realized that they might not play together again soon--maybe never--they gave it their all. The songs were alternatingly frantic (Attack) and tender (Lonliest Day). They are simply the best. The lawn was in a melee and people were standing throughout the venue. Who will rise to meet the creative and politically charged gap left by these guys when this tour is over? It's hard to say. If these guys retire, they retired on top. Everyone was singing along to every song. THEY ENDED ON A GREAT NOTE!
Joseph & I during SOAD performing. Oh yeah, there was a guy from Berkeley County who started talking to Joseph & I before SOADs' set...he asked me where I was from because of my accent & I told him we were from McDowell County & he was like I was thinking more like Georgia. He told Joseph that he was lucky to have a girl in WV that listens to metal because everyone that lives where he lives at tries to act like thugs when they're really not & we were like YEAH, THATS THE WAY IT IS WHERE WE LIVE AT. Dude, we hope to see you at Family Values Tour in September!
Honestly, Ozzfest is what makes my year & it is the day I live for. ROCK ON METALHEADS!!!!!!!!!!
