I put in an application at a new complex today that's owned by the same people as the one I already live in. This means I can transfer my lease in 30 days and get the fuck outta the ghetto. I've been talking about moving since the 3rd month I lived in that place. 2 years later it's finally happening :) The place I am moving to is also pretty inexpensive, though. They only charge about $50 more than where I live now, so that's a good indication that it will be the same type of neighbors. I'm getting an alarm in my apartment this time. I may even get a panic button since I'll be on the first floor. Living alone in the city can be scary!
i'm also going to cover the patio with that latice(sp?) crap so if someone wants to break in my backdoor (which opens into my BEDROOM!) they'll have to get through that first, and make a lot of racket. I'm starting to think my pathetic little can of mace isn't really the best defense mechanism I could own. However, if I owned a gun I the only person who would probably get shot with it is me.

It sounds like you are moving into scareyness...I doubt I'd be able to live where I am now alone, I'd be too scared!

Good plan on not keeping a gun...Maybe get some super strong mace? Or a cattle prod? Hahaha...that would be hilarious to see!
