Holocaust Remembrance Day.

"That was the year I discovered I was the sole survivor of my family.
I learned of their deaths, through family friends. Horrible, horrible stories." she mutters, handing me the fading photograph of smiling faces.
"It was the year I learned the difference between living and being alive.
But come, Anja. Let's talk of this no more."

Have you ever been to one of the "camps" (camp probably being the MOST inappropriate word to describe them!) on your travels? We went to Dachau when I was a kid... It REALLY makes you think...

I come from a country that was destroyed when the military government killed and tortured thousands of people in the 60's and 70's. And my father's family comes from Russia, they escaped during war because they're jewish. It's impossible to explain how your vision of the world gets conditioned by all these things that seem to be historical facts, but end up being social pain and human tears.

I couldn't even imagine, darling.
I know only the words I read on paper.
And that couldn't even begin to describe..

i was in a play/production, i never saw another butterfly ((based on childrens poems from terezin, the nazis showcamp for the red cross)).
& i just finished reading night by elie wiesel.
then i looked at those pictures found in the link.

the mere thought of something like the haulocost happening is unfathomable. the thought that humans are so power hungry they are willing to take each others lives, even the lives of their own loved ones whom they have personal& intimate relationships with... makes me cringe& want to move away from the world forever.
keep remembering. never forget.

I've been meaning to read Night for qute some time.

And yeah, I agree. The mere thought that even one
person could be so cold..it's terrifying.
(Let's run away from this world.)

Doesn't it though?
It seemed like such an overused line,
but..I thought it was fitting.
