During the Prom

I still wish I could be here with Avasa, but you know, I'm having a lot more fun than I thought I would. It's nice seeing everyone dressed up, the band is really good, and I'm having a great time with J, Jordy and Amanda. I said hi to Sophie and Scott earlier, but they're kind of staying away from us. I think it's probably because of the whole ( Read more... )

As much as I am aware that she probably wants to be with her friends right now and could do without the embarassment of talking to the staff (oh, what it is to be a teenager...) I feel I must tell Dawn how lovely she looks tonight - so different from the gawky little girl I remember from my early days in Sunnydale. Of course, those are not real memories, but I have long since been satisfied that, where Dawn is concerned, such things do not matter.

I wait until she is alone for a moment before approaching her. Wouldn't do to interrupt afterall. "Dawn," I say with a smile. "I hope you're having a good time."

I smile at him, thinking how nostalgic this must be for him. He was at Buffy's prom, and now he's at mine.

"Hi, Giles," I say. "I'm having a great time." I give him a wicked little smirk. "How about you?"

I raise an eyebrow sardonically. "Oh, supervising a room full of over hormonal teenagers is my life's work, really," I say dryily. "Present company excepted, naturally."

"Naturally." I giggle. "Just think, it'll all be over in a few hours." I glance out over the swaying bodies. "Buffy said she'd probably drop by to make sure we hadn't been invaded by hellhounds or something, but I haven't seen her yet."

Well, this sucks like hell. Here I am at the fucking Sunnydale Senior Prom, 'cause I thought I'd run into Heather. Jordan too, maybe. Can't say I'd mind a repeat of the other night, ya know?

The punch isn't even spiked. What kinda Prom is this?

I'm about to blow this place and go to the Bronze or somewhere when I see a tall, pretty girl who looks sorta familiar, standin' by herself. I walk over to her. "Hey, beautiful," I say.

Huh? I stare at him, wide-eyed. This is one of the guys who works with Avasa. I can't think of his name, but I recognize him. Mostly because a lot of the girls lust madly for him. He is cute, but... something about his expression makes me a little nervous.

"Um... hi."

See, I shoulda been chatting up these high school cuties a long time ago. Why not? Worse they can do is say no. "You here by yourself?" I lean a little closer. She is pretty. Nothin' like California girls. That old song was right.

Dude. This guy is so trying to pick me up. I'm kinda shocked. Wait a minute, why is he at the prom anyway? He doesn't work for the school. I wouldn't think he'd be a chaperone.

I move very slightly away. "No, I'm here with friends. Big ones who are football players."

I chuckle. "I kinda like bossy women. Not that you're really my type, but still." I eye her deliberately.

"What are you babbling about?" I ask her, letting her pull me. Not that I'd admit it, but she's prob'ly right about staying away from the jailbait.
