Next part. :D

A month had passed and they had worked past the fears and hurt of that night. Their apprehension only increased as her due date moved closer. Joey was still afraid of what kind of mother she’d be, that hadn’t changed, but with Dawson by her side she felt as if she could do anything. She looked up from the book she was reading and glanced over at Dawson. He was in the office/baby room scribbling at his notepad furiously. He spent more time at home these days, but he was still working. She smiled as she watched him bury his hands in his blonde hair and sigh in frustration.

She slid her book onto the coffee table and quietly crept up behind him. She leaned down and pressed her lips to the side of his neck. He turned around and smiled up at her. A strand of her long brown hair fell out of her bun and he reached up to brush it behind her ear. “You are the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.”

She blushed and laughed self-consciously. She clapped her hand on his shoulder and looked him in the eye, “Dawson, you’re crazy.”

“Crazy in love with the soon-to-be mother of my child.” He beamed.

“It won’t be long now.” She said softly, “Two more weeks….”

“And we’ll be parents.” He gave her a half-smile.

“Yeah,” For the first time since she had found out she was pregnant her voice was the one full of wonder. She gave him a crooked smile and leaned down to kiss him. “Speaking of…our child is pressing so hard into my bladder that I may explode if I don’t go now.” Before he had a chance to respond, she was making her way into the bathroom. Dawson laughed and turned back to his work.

~~~~~~~~~~
“When does your flight get in tomorrow, Bess?” Joey asked anxiously.
“For the millionth time, Jo, 11.”
“Thank you for coming again.”
“That’s what big sisters are for.”
“I wish mom were here….”
“Me too.” Bessie paused, “Jo, I have to go, but I’ll see you tomorrow, okay?”
“Okay, Bess, love you.”
“Love you too, kid.”
~~~~~~~~

“Dawson,” Joey sat bolt upright in bed that night. Dawson shook his head groggily and mumbled a response. She turned over to him with wide-eyes and shook his shoulder. “I think the contractions have started.” She had another pain that lasted for several minutes. “Strike that, I’m sure.” She gritted her teeth as another one began.

That was all it took to fully wake him up. Dawson jumped out of bed and scrambled to find the duffel bag they had put together just for this purpose. He ran into the love seat, coffee table, and chair as he rushed into the living room. He flung the closet door open and tugged the bag down. A burst of pain shot through his head as it fell onto his foot, but he ignored the pain and rushed back into the bedroom. “Okay, got the bag. Let’s go.”

“Dawson….you’re….” She winced. “not dressed.”

He looked down to see she was right and threw on a pair of faded jeans and a t-shirt. In no time they were on their way to the hospital. Since it was 2 AM there was very little traffic. The world seemed to rush by him and stop all at the same time. He impatiently filled out paperwork in the waiting room while the nurses took Joey away. It was going to be a long night.

~~~~~~~~~~
Dawson stirred from sleep as Joey rested her hand on his arm. “Dawson, wake up.” Joey said impatiently. Seeing him there sleeping for the past two hours made her want to strangle him. Every time she had closed her eyes to sleep, another wave of pain had run through her tired body.
Dawson shook himself awake, “Yeah, Jo.”
“Go into the waiting room and call our friends and family.”
“What time is it?”
“Do I LOOK like a watch?” She snapped.
He ignored this comment. “I don’t want to leave you.”
“The nurses said I still have several hours before I give birth, it won’t take that long to call everyone.” She paused. “You should get something to eat and go back to the apartment and change.” She paused, “Bessie….you have to get her, her plane comes in at 11.”
“I’ll take care of everything,” He vowed and kissed her sweaty forehead.
She gave him a half-smile, “You always do.”
~~~~~~~~~~

He had put on a brave face for Joey, but he was terrified. They were going to be parents. Soon. He had known it was the ultimate outcome of her pregnancy, but it hadn’t really hit him until today. Dawson and Joey, two people who had spent their whole lives fighting with and against each other, were going to be parents. After today it would no longer be just Dawson and Joey; it would be Dawson and Joey plus one. He shook his head in amazement.

He dialed his mom’s number on his cell and heard it ring, “Hello?” A groggy Gail grumbled into the phone.

“Hey mom, I know it’s early….well really early for you.” He gave a nervous laugh, “But Joey went into labor early this morning.”

Gail became fully alert at this, “Oh honey, that’s great.” He could hear the tears in her voice, “I wish I were there.”

Dawson felt himself getting misty eyed, “Me too, mom.” He paused, “I wish dad were here.”

“Honey, he would be so proud of you. I know I am.”

He smiled at this, “I’ll let you go now, I have to run some errands. Gotta pick Bessie up at the airport.”

“Okay, honey, give me a call when the baby is here.”

“I will.” He hung up the phone with a smile and headed out to his car to eat, change, and pick up his sister-in-law.

~~~~~~~~~~
Bessie settled into the passenger seat comfortably. “She went into labor already huh? Just like a Potter, can’t wait for anything.” She chuckled.
“Just part of the Potter charm.”
“Hey, Dawson, I never got the chance to thank you for buying that ticket for me.”
“You being here was important to Joey so there wasn’t any other choice.” He smiled.
“I always knew you could take care of her.” She looked at him seriously, “Thank you.”
“We both know she can take care of herself.”
She gave him a half-smile, “Well, she can always use the extra help.” Laughter filled the car as they pulled onto the interstate.
~~~~~~~~

Dawson and Bessie took turns sitting by Joey’s bedside for the next 8 hours. Dawson held her hand in silence and they would share private smiles using only their eyes. Her brow and hair were sweat stained, but to Dawson she was still the most beautiful woman in the world. He had only fallen more in love with her during her pregnancy. His fear was still large, but as he watched her struggle to bring his child into the world he felt everything would be okay. Her grip was painful as their baby came into the world, but it never once occurred to him to pull his hand away from her. As she gave one final scream, he felt their souls merge into one and her pain became his.

Her hand went limp in his and she fell back onto the pillow. “Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Leery, you have a beautiful baby girl.” Joey didn’t say a word, just smiled in accomplishment and closed her eyes.

“A girl?” Dawson whispered in wonder. He had been hoping for a girl. The doctor just smiled and patted his shoulder as the nurses went about their usual business.

“And what will be the name of this beautiful girl?” The doctor chuckled.

Without opening her eyes Joey said, “Juliet.”

~~~~~~~~~~
Dawson cradled his daughter in his arms and stared down at her small, sleeping face. She barely had any hair on her head and the little strands that could be found were so blond they were almost white. She opened her dark blue eyes and stared up to him. Dawson had to catch his breath as an overwhelming love filled his heart and soul. He gently touched her tiny fist and his heart clenched. She was tiny, so fragile, so beautiful. It was his daughter. It was Joey’s daughter. Their daughter. Nothing in the world could be more amazing than that.
He glanced over at Joey’s sleeping form on the hospital bed. He realized he was wrong. The only thing more amazing than the baby he was holding in his arms was her mother. The girl of his dreams had become the woman of his reality. It was her love that guided him through the dark and stormy seas of life. With her by his side, he felt as if he could do anything. Their marriage and their love was something that transcended time itself, reaching into forever. It left him feeling humbled and powerful.
As if she could hear his thoughts as if he were speaking them she opened her eyes and smiled. He walked over to her and sat down lightly. He crouched down as much as possible to allow Joey a glance at the life they had created together. Joey’s face held the same look of joy and love as his. She touched Juliet’s cheek gently.
“Dawson she’s….”
“Delicate.”
“Strong.”
“A dreamer.”
“A cynic.”
“She’s both of us.”
“The dream has become…..” He paused and they both whispered, “A reality.”
He rested his head against hers and they sat there in silence for a long time. No words were needed between them because they were both feeling the same thing. One glance a Juliet’s face eased their fears. They knew that whatever was ahead of them, they would get through it because they had each other. It was no longer the story of Dawson and Joey. A new chapter had begun in the book of life and they were looking forward to every minute of it.
That was the last part, hope you all liked it! :D
