when you're the kind of person who lives moment to moment, there is really only one thing going for you - hope. you don't carefully plan things out and anticipate for things to happen, you're not 'safe' like your other friends, you just kind of believe and hope that all this craziness will eventually end somewhere good, just like the stories you ( Read more... )

i think when we believe something, the universe conspires to make it happen. (ralph waldo emerson says a similar thing too) a lot of things in life try to beat our hope down but if we stick to it it'll eventually be true. you know what i mean? like once we lower our standards that's what we'll get stuck with.

that is very true. esp. that last line!

but at the same time, i feel that as we grow older, whether it is because we become more 'realistic' or whatnot, we sadly do somewhat lower our standards. but that's just life and growing up right?

depends on who we surround ourselves with i suppose. i have some friends who are strangely the opposite of what everyone thinks should happen when we grow older. one of them told me the quote that "good is the enemy of best" which i love, because once we're settled for oh this is good, he's nice, or whatever, we lose sight of what we're holding out for, which is the best. whenever i'm around them i feel refreshed and get reminded that hoping only seems hopeless in the middle, but always ends with a reward.

i know how you feel since i'm also around those who are constantly selling out for temporary happiness but when i'm with them i always get the sense they're scared because they're starting to lose themselves in the process

haha i feel like this a very debatable topic! not that i don't agree with you, because i do! but i guess in the end, this is really just a catch 22 situation.

it's sort of like asking "how can there be good, if there is no evil?" & vice versa. i think we all need to sell ourselves short at one point to work out what we really want, and work out what is ideally realistic to obtain.

i have a group of friends who have been holding out for the best, and each year their definition of the 'best' becomes more and more unrealistic. i'm quite certain now they are just holding out for the big reward prize, but i've heard what their reward consists of - and trust me. no one is that perfect.

i think although it is important to want the best, we also need to remember to be realistic about it too. in the end it's really about what's best for us, which sadly isn't always the best for everyone.
