Well for what it's worth I'm about 10,000 behind on mine.
That said i am really enjoying it, even if i don't make the final word count i am definatly going to keep on with my story because i am so into it right now.

Remember: if it wasn't for the last minute nothing would get done!

Good luck! At least 8k's about do-able.

My best output for a single day is 7k words, but it was a rewrite edit. I average 2-4k on rough draft output anyway.
