Accents are so weird! Srly, I just watched this Lost fanfilm (some of it, anyway) and I dunno what I was expecting, but it was all... American! And for me, that made it more professional because being in England and 99% sheltered from American accents, I associate them with blockbuster movies and US TV shows ( Read more... )

Hahaha, I've got a broad Yorkshire accent. It's funny. When I was a freshers helper the overexcited freshers thought it was brilliant. Most of the time people just can't understand what the hell I'm saying =P

I've lived all over the USA and I can tell the difference pretty easily.
With English accents I can tell the difference between north and south, Irish and Scottish in general but not much else.

I have a mix of northern american(Jacks accent) and a bit of west coast (think Hurley)

I should do a voice post so you can hear shouldn't I?

I have a very broad North-East/Highland Scottish accent. And from my experience, a lot of Americans have absolutely no idea where my accent is from. I blame that on me not sounding like Sean Connery, or *shudder* Mel Gibson in Braveheart. Most Americans I've come across, after hearing me speak either say "oh, I love your English accent; are you from London?" or "you're Irish, how awesome!" or, my personal favourite: "so, you're like, what, Canadian or something?"

I can't tell the difference between American accents, unless they're obvious. I can recognize a Southern accent and I can recognize a broad New York accent, but otherwise, they all sound exactly the same to me.

Lmao really! So that just proves the average American really can't tell the difference between UK accents.

"so, you're like, what, Canadian or something?"

Haha that's brilliant XD

Yeah, same-- can't tell the difference unless it's blatently obvious :/

I have a Plymouthian accent! I'm from the south-west, down by the sea! We're right next to Cornwall so it's a bit like diluted Cornish. And no, I'm not a farmer (lol).

This is interesting to me too.

I have a standard American accent. Although occasionally I'll sound a little bit Southern (not anywhere near Sawyer) and sometimes I sound Midwestern (can't really explain it). But I suppose my accent is most like Jack's on Lost. Plain. Boring. Not exciting.

I can distinguish the different accents you mentioned. I find it quite easy actually. I can easily tell the difference between Welsh, Irish, Scottish, and different locations of England. Actually the differences are usually quite obvious.

Next time we chat online I'll have to find my microphone so you can hear what I sound like.

Jack doesn't sound any different to the other American characters on Lost to me! Isn't Kate supposed to be Canadian? Cuz I can't tell the difference between her and Jack's accent. Or theirs and Locke's accent, say. :S -- and to me, that's not a boring accent! ^___^

I suppose mine is most like... Harry's, a la Harry Potter. Not as lazy as Ron and not as posh as Hermione XD - I used to be able to do a scarily good impression of her though, apparently!

Yeah, I thought they were rly obvious! But I thought maybe they were obvious to me, as a UK dwelling bean, but not to someone from elsewhere. Just like I can't tell the difference between most American accents.

Yes, dooo! I wanna hear you! XD

Yeah Jack is standard American. Kate's accent is American too to me. But a lot of Canadians sound just like standard American so, I suppose that's why. Oh, thanks. I think it's boring, but I'm glad you don't. XD

Aww, I like your accent. It's really cute. :D

Well they are to me, anyway. I think a lot of Americans wouldn't be able to tell the difference. I know my mom can't. One time we met a guy from Manchester, England and my mom asked him what part of Scotland he was from. *facepalm* But I guess I know because I watch a lot of British shows. *shrugs* I dunno.

Coolness. Will do. Maybe tomorrow. I know I'll be around. That is if I manage to get up earlier than today (2 pm!!!). ;)

Ohh... rightyo! XD

Aww, thanks :P - I suppose if you're surrounded by people who speak in the same accent as you, then you're bound to get bored of it.

LOL! I have family in Manchester. Hmm, Scottish... hahaha! Yeah, it's prolly cuz of the tellybox xD

2pm! Sounds good to me ;)
