Call backs

Heather really is taking her time in picking a Romeo - she obviously cannot see what's in front of her face. She's called me in to audition once more this afternoon. I'm not sure who else will be there, but I'm sure that it'll become clear once I reach the auditiorium. Oh how I love the unique smell of that place, the wood, the heavy curtains, ( Read more... )

I walk into the auditiorium, wondering where the music's coming from, then I see that little kid in the corner, pretending he's playing the guitar - purlease - *I* could do better than that. Well, y'know, if I actually knew how to pay the guitar, that is. Which I could, I just never learnt.

I wander over.

"You decide to come and watch then?" I ask, slightly condescendingly.

What? The squib was *called back*???? In what world am I currently living. I look around and notice for the first time that we're the only two people in the room. Oh, come on! This cannot be happening - Heather can't seriously have got it down to me and him?? Surely there's no contest.

"Well, Heather obviously finds it hard to disappoint little children," I say sympathetically.

I laugh - that's genuinely funny. I mean, I've hear the 'my brother'll beat you up - but threatening me with his *mom*, that's a good one!

"She's a little old for me, and really not my type. Actually, I have my eye on this cute little redhead - friend of yours, maybe."

Oh, yeah. I hit the nail on the head with *that* little comment, if the flash of his eyes is anything to go by...

“She didn’t seem to be complaining, so I really don’t see what business it is of yours,” I say, wondering how the hell this guy has the nerve to try and threaten me. And what's with the growling???

I sit in the first row of seats while the boys take turns onstage. I watch while Eric does his scene yet again. I'm glad Taffy is there; I want the decision to be perfectly unbiased, and I'm just a trifle annoyed after overhearing him calling me by my first name. It's not a big deal, but I never actually told him he could.

He's good, his lines are fluid, he has a good presence. I lean over to Taffy. "So what do you think? He's pretty good, isn't he?"

"I'm in such a quandary, he should be a shoo-in for the part, but Jordy just has something...well, you'll see. It's why I wanted help deciding."

I nod to Eric approvingly as he finishes and steps down, miraculously without a speech, and Jordy goes up to take his turn.
