I almost walk by Eric in the hall, and at the last minute decide to stop. He was nice to me, and it's not like I've made tons of friends at Sunnydale High in the months I've been here. Besides, there is always the possibility that I'll learn something interesting about him for later use.

"Hey, there!" I say, in my friendliest tone. "Getting all geared up for auditions?"

He looks confident. I've always liked confidence in a guy.

Hey, it's the cute redhead from drama club. Thought I'd made an impression on her - it's always good when they come to you. I flash her one of my best smiles.

"Hi - Janice, right?" I say, pleased that I remembered her name. "I think everything's good to go with the auditions. What part are you going for?" I ask.

I laugh nervously and fidgit with the strap of my purse. "Oh, I'm SO not. I'm pretty sure Miss Vargas said we didn't have to try out. Nope, it's scenery and props for me. I'll be running around backstage passing out swords and stuff, I guess."

I hadn't actually decided until the words came out of my mouth, but the backstage stuff sounded kind of fun. Plus, I couldn't mess things up too badly slapping a little paint on a backdrop, could I? Except someone else had better be responsible for building the balcony, or else it would collapse under Juliet in the middle of her love scene.

"How 'bout you? You gunning for Romeo, I bet?"

"You're not auditioning?" I ask, trying to sound disappointed. Well, after all, I'd picked this one out to be Juliet to my Romeo. "But I'm sure you'd be a natural - is there nothing I could do to change your mind?"

"Um, no, I definitely don't do cheerleader impressions or pompoms," I inform him. Yeah, because I actually have a brain in my head. So it doesn't get by me that he took the cheering to mean him, personally, rather than all my friends, but I let it slide.

"I should call my mom and let her know I'll be home a little later than usual. And that she doesn't have to worry about picking me up." I smile, genuinely grateful for the ride and that he doesn't make any snide remarks about me not having my own car, like the jerks at Kent used to. "I'll just be a minute."

"I'll be right here wating for you," I say with a smile, leaning back against the locker as she makes the call. Score one for me - driving a cute girl home. Plus getting her to spend quality time with yours truely - but how could she resist? The charm offensive always works!
