Well! Today I realized how interesting my life is going to be as a music major...
I'm going to take you through my Monday in order to explain myself.
The day began at 6:30 when I awoke to get ready for my first class at 7:25. I kind of had to scramble because I had to pack up my laptop and take it with me. This thing is damn HEAVY! But I had to carry it around to all my classes because I knew I wouldn't have time to go get it from my dorm in between classes.
So, we move on. Keep in mind I didn't know what any of my classes were because they go by numbers, and my advisor set up my schedule for me while I was not present. Thinking I had Keyboarding or something this morning, I was met with a nasty shock when the professor said "Welcome to Brass Skills." My jaw seriously dropped to the floor. And he proceeded to explain that because we are all music education majors we should have the basic skills of brass instruments to be well-rounded, and so that if for any reason we are the only music teacher at a school we can show expertise in a wide range of instruments. So this implies that I'm going to be taking Woodwind Skills, String Skills, Percussion Skills...My gosh. When he asked me what instrument I preferred I told him to just give me the easiest one, which happens to be the euphonium. Ever heard of it? Me either. But by golly I will learn to play that euphonium. You watch.
Next class, second period at 8:30, was Music Theory Rudiments. I'm so glad I have this class! Today we were in the piano lab. It was great! Everything was for beginners so I was like 6 months of lessons ahead of the game. It was awesome!
Then I had to hike across campus to my next class, Acting for non-majors, at 9:35. Keep in mind that I was still lugging my laptop...man, what a bummer. But anyways, we played "Zip, zap, zop" (yeah, it's 'zop') and the "Go" game. YES! WARM-UP GAMES!! But the bad news is I forgot I had a 2 page paper due that day. I had to lie and said that I left it at home. *shrugs*
Fourth period (10:40) was Music Technology. Man, I thought this would definitely be my least favorite class. Turns out, making web pages is wayy easier than I thought! It was soooo cool! I made my own webpage in like 1 minute, you guys! I'll be able to show you once we get our domain space or whatever. It's a really cool site, too. It's called "LISA RULES".
Oh, and on a side note, I've got this secret mission I'm planning to uncover my Technology teacher's true identity. Here's the thing: He's really good at designing websites and whatever, he has a really good sense of humor, and he has Homestar Runner/Strongbad stuff all over the place. I'm sure he's like the creator of Homestar. I'll let you know when I find out more.
Anyways, fifth period is a really fun class: English Singer's Diction. You're probably thinking, "Wow, that class sounds unbearably boring", but it's not to me. We read poetry aloud and talk about dipthongs. I love it!
Then I had a break from 12:35 to like 2:45. Had lunch with my cool/awesome cousin Lauren at Pita Pit (I go there like every day, I swear). It was really good to see her, and highly amusing because it made me feel like it was either Christmas or Easter, haha.
Then from 3 to 4:55 is Woman's Chorale. I love the instructor. However, he's only temporary, which is sad. He's really good. :( Hopefully I'll get him next semester for University Choir.
And from there I've been in my dorm, just chillin' and doing homework. I'm about to head out for REID ROCKS, an open jam-session more dorm holds every Monday. I know I can't play anything, but maybe they'll let me watch. Should be fun! Yah?
