I have survived my first day at New Work! I was completely convinced I was going to turn up and someone would say "oh! -- there's been a mistake. We hired somebody else."

It's all posh at New Work. They have special door passes (OUT OF THE FUTURE) which unlock the doors, you have to show your pass to the box by the side of the door and it goes: okay, you are allowed. Or doesn't. I had to borrow somebody else's pass in the morning because mine wouldn't work.

The train I thought I could get which would get me to work at a perfect time, as it turns out only runs on Saturdays. So I have to get a train at three minutes past seven and change trains at the mouth of despair and then get to Leeds at ten to eight which is unnecessarily early but I suppose that's how it goes. I hope Starbucks isn't open before half past eight. I shall pretend it isn't. I won't go down there and look.

I had a gingerbread latte before I got on the train home as a reward for not dying of an anxiety-induced heart attack. I wasn't sure about it on the first sip, then after that I quite liked it -- it tasted kind of like a cross between the Wizard of Oz and Hansel and Gretel, melted down into liquid form -- and then when I got about halfway down the novelty wore off and I wasn't sure I liked it any more. I'll know not to get that one next time. Too confusing.

My New Work is very cold (because of all the technology). A man who sits diagonally opposite me was wearing fingerless gloves. I had two pairs of socks on and I think that is the way of the future.

The woman who used to do the job that is now my job now works at the other side of the room in application development so she mostly showed me what to do. And if I have anything I don't know what to do with I can go and ask her, so that's okay. New boss sits one desk across from me and is very keen to get started with my learnings. He is going to sign me up for a Crystal Reports training session which is fine by me. I am all for new learnings.
