it's finally over!
Man, what a relief. I'm glad about how the election went, obviously, but more than that- I'm just glad the goddamned thing is OVER. I'm really hoping that the rhetoric will back off a little, and people will get back to being a little more reasonable... I think the whole process has been kinda crazymaking for both sides.
- my happiness about the general election aside, I'm really disappointed with the shit I'm hearing about Prop 8 in California. If that passes (they're still tallying), I think it says something interesting about Obama voters, I think, but even moreso about people in general.
- sort of along the same lines, I'm hoping this will usher in a bit of a social shift- when Obama turns out to NOT be the secret muslim sleeper agent terrorist messiah antichrist, maybe some people will re-think their rhetoric. I'm hoping a handful of pundits (on both sides) will find themselves out of a job, but that's probably just wishful thinking. A lot of people may use this as an excuse to go even more batshit, and if there's one thing the last eight have shown us it's that there's always some asshole with a radio show for them.
- again, following the last thought, I'm really interested in seeing what this means for the Republican party. I said a few times that had McCain been old McCain this election (not referring to age, but the prior version- pro-choice, not stridently against gay rights, more focused on fiscal conservatism and small government), I might have considered voting for him. I mean, even if he hadn't deep-throated the party line this time around, the Palin thing blew that right out of the realm of possibility. Still, I'm crossing my fingers that the guys in charge of the GOP will, after taking Rove's resume out of the filing cabinet and burning it, say "well, I guess this means it's time to retire the 'vote red or the gays will partially abort your baby during their muslim atheist wedding' line". Time to get back to your roots, guys. If I were the Libertarian party right about now, I'd be closely guarding my shit.
Anyway, that's about all I got. Hope I didn't offend anyone with my antics.
