I often marvel how absolutely and completely alone we all are and how self absorbed most people are in their lives. That they're almost afraid to bother meeting new people, especially on the train or on the bus. Last night while taking the train home, I met an elderly man who just started to talk to me. I've wondered if it's the inevitable fate of anyone outliving their loved ones, or if technology can change it. When I think about older people who play WoW for example, it makes me wonder if things like MMORPGs make people less lonely in their golden years.

Then again, if I was 85 and fed up with the BS of the world, I might not have the patience for Barrens Chat.

I can relate to this post because like you, I like to listen to strangers who need it. I think it was very sweet that you did that, and you made some poor, lonely man's night a little brighter.
