I'd had this talk with Buffy once. It was no eaiser now than it had been then. I got up, and got her a cool wash cloth for her forehead.

"Lie to you?" I sighed, as I put it over her skin. She didn't argue.

"Everyone is okay. There are no more vampires. Buffy will be home soon. And we will never hurt again when someone dies or gets hurt." I sat beside her, and took her hand in mine.

I held his hand, but said the only thing that came to mind.

"Liar."

"What do we do now, Rupert? How do we go on? Either of us." I meant me, mostly, but knew he'd cared for her as well.

"Oh god..." I sat up, and he quickly grabbed the washrag, holding it on my forhead, "Is she ... I mean, are they going to come after us? Or is Faith going to kill her? I...I can't handle that, not yet." I begged, almost, "Keep her alive, just a little longer. Please."

"I don't think Faith is up to du...killing Buffy just yet," I felt my voice catch, "we shall see when they get back. I'm hoping they come back here. Now Joyce, I think you need to rest."

She looked at me, and her eyes no longer held anger. Just need. A need I knew I shouldn't, and coulnd't right now, fulfill. Instead, I found a sleeping pill for her.

"Please, take this." She nodded, taking the pill, and laying back down.

"Thank you, Rupert." Her words slowed to a slur, and she fell asleep.

I went back downstairs to await the gang, and the news of Xander and all.
