i don't mean to be a party pooper or a downer or anything but what's so "Happy" about new years. i mean. every year people celebrate it like its paradise. but..... nothing has changed. Probably because they're wishing that the next year will be better than the miserable past one and just wishing that people will have a happy new year. I personally think there is nothing worth celebrating. A new year...wow--another year bringing me closer to my death...Well I guess that IS something to celebrate. It's just fun to party and say the meaningless yet well-meant words "HAPPY NEW YEAR!" . And with that, HAPPY NEW YEAR Faisal!

Peace dude.

cheerry blossom and yourself are absolutely right. There really isn't anything to celebrate about for December 31 and January 1 are the same, except for the change in year number. It's not a celebration of a saint nor of some day where we commemorate great people. It's a day for ourselves, to reflect on the past and TRY to correct the wrong we did. For some, it could be a new start. Sure, people can do this anytime during the year, but the first day of the year is *official* and thus, the name encourages people to make resolutions.

Along with new beginnings, people party like there's no tomorrow during New Years. Think of it also as a day of relaxation and freedom where people can let themselves go for a few hours and then recollect themselves for the harsh, upcoming year. Sorta like Mardi Gras, no?

Hope that helps!
