let me be the one to say I've really had enough

I can't get it out of my brain. That girl who said she worked for Wolfram & Hart-- the one me and Oz ran into while we were patrollin' with Melaka that last time. I've gotta find out who she is and do somethin' about her. She threatened me, put her hands on me. I know I'm s'posed to be on the side of good, but I wanna make her wish she never ( Read more... )

I seek out Faith, and lean in the doorframe, watching her for a moment before announcing my presense. "You know we should give the heads up to everyone else about the run in with that girl." I say. I know it's been bothering her a lot. Distracting her it's bothering her so much. Not the best of plans.

I turn around from where I've been pacin' the lobby. I try to get the exasperated look off of my face; none of this is his fault. I run my fingers through my hair and move closer to him. "Yeah, I know. I keep wantin' to go all vigilante on her psycho ass, but I know that ain't smart."

"No, it's not." I say. "Here is where you go to the rest of your team and tell them what's up, and we can figure it out together." I say gently. I know that's really not the way she does things. But maybe it's time she started. It wouldn't hurt if she started showing she can be a team player. I give her the hint of a smile. "I can go with you." Not going to do it for her, but I can be Moral Support Guy.

"You have to," I say, a tiny bit petulantly. "You're part of the team, too." I reach for his hand, very lightly capturing his fingers, I guess wantin' the reassurance of touch. I manage a rueful smile. "Damn, she really got to me," I say.

I come out of the office with a cup of coffee in my hand. Oz and Faith are in the lobby, talking, er, closely, and I hesitate to interupt them. Maybe I can just slip back before they notice I'm there...

I don't look away from Faith, but greet the lurking vampire anyways. "Angel." I say, nodding my head.

Gah, caught. I come all the way out, lean against the counter and set own my mug. "Hey Oz, Faith," I say, trying to sound upbeat. "How've things been?" Their discussion had looked pretty intense, and I don't know if it's anything they want me privy to.

"...Interestin'," I say dryly. I dunno where to even start between the dark-haired bitch and the buildin' that was on fire where she was supposedly killin' demons. I sigh heavily, turnin' to look at Angel.

"I've dealt with Lilah before, I could do it," I say. "But getting more information first is probably a good idea." I think for a minute. "Well, if you wounded her," I say with a questioning glance at Oz, "She'll be moving slow for a while, maybe I could track her, or you could even better, since you know what she looks like and everything. Maybe see where she goes, who she meets?"

I don't hesitate though inwardly I feel like I did. My eyes aren't on Faith when I speak. "Yeah I could go play bloodhound." I say. "Though if I'm going to, I should now." I don't point out that knowing what she looks like and tracking her are almost completely unrelated things. If I'm tracking someone, it's scent.

I know this makes sense. He can look for her and nobody'd really notice him in the dark unless he made a point to be noticed. But I'm not happy. I feel pushed off to the side, ya know? Or maybe it's just that I wanna pound on her myself.

Faith looks pretty disgruntled by the suggestion. "You have a better idea?" I ask her. "Or are you worried about the silver bullets? 'Cause I'm pretty confident Oz can take care of himself, it's just recon." I look at Oz, driving that point home. "Don't want to engage her until we know what she's after."

Something about the whole thing is bothering me, though. Like it got escalated out of proportion from a shove. Faith can be trigger happy, but it seems like I'm missing something.
