I just can't believe they killed Mal.*
*just kidding :)
I won't put any spoilers out there, but it was AWESOME, and I am totally going to pay to see it again on Friday. Everyone should go! Even people that have never heard of Firefly!
It's good to see River and Simon finally consumate their obvious incestual love for one another. Also, Book is really a woman. Jayne isn't, *but* he is actually metrosexual, and has penchant for Pottery Barn (yes, it still exists 500 years in the future, only it's more asian-themed. Also, they bought a whole planet.). One of the rejected tag lines for the film was "Come see the softer side of Jayne", but it didn't go over well for obvious reasons. There was all the remembered sexual tension between Kaylee and Jayne, and Mal and Simon, and Book and River, but Simon's love (and by love I mean *love*) for his sister really won out in this film. Besides, what psychopathic teenage girl would want to date a confused, cross-dressing, bible-toting, lesbian "Shepherd" with a dark past? Well, I mean, other than River. Because she's made of chocolate, and Book is chocolatey-brown.
Other "aha" moments in the movie included Wash saying some funny stuff, and then Jayne saying some funny stuff, and then River being crazy. Mal was harsh but loveable, and Kaylee was kindhearted and earthy. These were all pretty huge departures from their characters on the show, obviously.
above spoilers behind the cut may not actually be spoilers... in fact, they aren't, so you can read them with confidence
