aah, no i haven't. is it nice? where might i get a copy. it's really a crime, i'm 1/4 chilean and my mom grew up there, but i haven't been there yet, and haven't seen any films from there either... hoping to track down some raul ruiz films in the near future.
it's worth watching. some chilean critics called it the best chilean film ever made when it came out, which is probably a bit of an exaggeration, but it's quite good. it elegantly collapses narratives of political becoming with coming of age/coming into privilege. unfortunately i haven't seen it here, but if you're interested maybe i can lend you my copy through edward (basse) or something. i'd be happy to share!
sadly, even in chile it's not easy to get ahold of chilean films -- kind of the same situation as here, but since there isn't much of a popular chilean cinema, video releases are quickly relegated to libraries and personal collections. i.e. even films released in 2003 were hard to find when i was there last year.
that's terrible to hear about the difficulty of sourcing films. (of course, as you said, its also true here of independent works and older films). if only (or perhaps when!) i had (have) the resources, i'd love to start a distribution company for filipino/southeast asian films on dvd.
would be glad to borrow it through edward if that's an option :)
