this isn't supposed to happen to me

my leg swelled up last week after a sore day followed by an intense bike race (in which i still placed last, but had fun. it was the first race for that bike and i am having it reconfigured to be more functional in the next race. but that's beside the point.)

it hasn't unswelled since. magn0lia, masseuse & chiropractor extraordinaire, came over and ( Read more... )

Holy God my LJ is still active. Well that's fun!

Anyway, lots of hugs. It *is* best to just not eat greens (or blueberries - anything with vitamin K), easier to control your INR that way. (though it had the effect of making me gain weight - no salads - and go slightly anemic.) I never had to give myself the shots, but I did have to see my dr and make a copay every day for a week, ugh.

Swelling might go down in as few as 3 days. If the clot is due to a muscle tear like mine, you might start asking about PT now...

Be very very grateful for insurance. I *easily* spent 5k of my insurance's money. Oh +3k for the genetic tests. :/

Call anytime. It's going to be ok!!!

Glad you got it taken care of. As far as my expert knowledge of sonograms goes, the external wanding technology hasn't changed, but boy has the software to interpret and display the result come leaps and bounds from "blurry grey blob in a still picture". Now they have full color motion doppler radar movies!

aw, boo for all the anticoagulant stuff -- and the feeling crummy. I hear that stuff really is rather inconvenient. But the alternative is probably even more inconvenient.

Hopefully it'll do the trick quickly, and you'll be, at least, feeling better soon. And hopefully the clot itself will resolve quickly, too.

Did they say if you've had one clot if you'll be susceptible to more in the future? Curious how that works.

And having fasted from alcohol for 9 months, plus another 6 months so far, it's doable. In fact, I can report that virgin mojitos may even be better than the real thing, when done just right. And when you break the fast, your bar tab will practically float off the counter it'll be so light.

Thinking of you!

Weird and disturbing! Good luck and hugs to you. I'm glad you got some good health care for it!

Oddly I was thinking about you a few days ago and remembering our visit to Portland, meeting up at the Japanese garden etc. Time flies. I hope to revisit sometime!
