Anyone familiar with dream interpretation? I'm not sure that dreams actually mean anything.. I've debated for a long time whether or not I think they have any significance.. however I guess it can't hurt to ask around. I'm trying to figure out what these recent dreams mean ( Read more... )

in dreams, death rarely means death.

actually, almost never.

your brain tends to tell you things in mor eof a metaphorical sense, rather than in a clearly spelled out liuteral sense.

do not be afraid of the mentally ill or soldiers, it was probably just the wind...

I'm a boring, unimaginative sort, so I would blame stress or a change in sleeping patterns. It's your body's way of saying "Hi, remember me? I'm still here."

On the other hand, based on all the blood and bullets in your dreams, your subconscious mind may be trying to remind you that there is a new Quentin Tarantino film opening this weekend and just wants you to be ready for it.

Of course my subconscious has terrible taste in movies, and my body is only interested in big chairs and cheesy pretzels, so I don't let either of them make those kind of decisions. Your psyche may vary.

Well, there are two prominent original sources for dream interpretation, which is Carl Jung's school of thought--that human beings exist in a collective unconscious, a group of images, associations, feelings, symbols, etc. that have existed within the human psychology since primeval times. The best source for this type of interpretation is Man and His Symbols. Sigmund Freud's theory of dream interpretation quite different from this, he basically says that the manifest content (ie, what you posted in this livejournal) does not hold the overall meaning of the dream, but in order to understand your dream, you have to take each fragment apart and analayze it and discover what unconcious associations you have with each image or reaction. He believes that dreams do not take their content from the day before you go to sleep, but rather from the day or two days previous to the dream. There are somatic reasons, ie, your body position or breathing problems or something you ate that may be a vehicle for something 'repressed' that you're trying ( ... )
