Community set to friends-only posts

Feb 24, 2008 20:01

Very reluctantly, after escalation of the problems a number of the trans communities have been having with posts being leaked via screencaps and posted elsewhere, we, along with many of the trans and trans partners communities have had to set the default for posts to friends only. Hopefully we will be able to change this in the future, but at the ( Read more... )

Hi Simon,
I just wanted to add in the comments that if people post something and truly WISH to have it public, they can do so by posting the entry, and then going back to edit mode and choosing public. I don't know if that's what you desire for your community, but in the partners group, I've given people the option of doing that, so that at the very least, they are making the conscious decision to publicize something.

Just wanted to let you know, which you likely already did.

Thanks annabelle,
I didn't put instructions on how to do it in the post because until I'd posted and actually gone back and made it public I wasn't sure how it worked

I'm curious, as I've heard it referenced in the other trans-related communities I'm a part of- what are screencaps?

Screencaps (from what I've found out so far use a separate program)take like a mini photo of what's on the screen and save it as a graphic file you can use as a reference or post elsewhere. A useful little utility when used for honest purposes, such as saving part of a page to read later, they can also be used (as they are in this case) to pass on confidential (friends-locked) information which is then posted elsewhere. This is being done by someone who has been either denied access and/or thrown out of communities is fanatically against trans people (and from what I can work out bisexuals, basically anyone who doesn't fit her definitions of 'it's right for me therefore it has to be right for everyone') and gets friends (or makes fake LJ accounts to infiltrate our groups for the sole purpose of getting screencaps and publishing them ( ... )

I tried both the "Join this community" link above and sent an email to suevill@aphalink.com.au. There was no response at all to the "Join this community" and I got the following in response to my email attempt:

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

Technical details of permanent failure:

Did you cut and paste that email address, or type it in? Because my email address is suevill@alphalink.com.au (not aphalink), which would explain the problem-you're missing the l after the first a.
Simon
Edit: Oops, sorry, it was my typing error in the original post, which is now fixed.

I've tried emailing to join the community three times, I keep getting a post delivery error for email. Do you have another email address?
