April 26 is supposedly World Intellectual Property Day, so it's perhaps darkly fitting that today news should break [*] that the European Parliament has passed the appalling IPRED2 legislation, which criminalises a whole raft of IP-related matters, on its first reading.

That is appalling. When I first glanced at this I thought you meant the parliament had just introduced the legislation and I went and read the wiki site thinking 'this is a mess, it will never pass'.
