Tuesday in D.C.

When I finally got out of the hotel Tuesday afternoon, I walked down 23rd Street toward Constitution Avenue, to visit the monuments. On the George Washington University campus, I passed a Sikh-one of those guys who wears a turban, and follows a religion that’s an offshoot of Hinduism-with a money cup. I must admit, I passed him by, because I’d ( Read more... )

Be careful around Sikhs.

According to their religious laws all men (those old enough to grow a full beard) must be armed.

He sounded cool, and nice enough, but it makes me nervous to know that person is armed.

STOP TALKING TO STRANGERS!!!!

Didn't your parents ever teach you that?

Beggars are not safe people to talk to anyways.

'Scuse me for butting in.

One who took your advice literally wouldn't have got to talk with Bruce Babbitt on the plane.

I think our _ginevra_ is smart enough to be an intelligent chooser of beggars for conversation, or not.

As to the Sikhs' being "armed," things aren't always what they seem, viz. http://www.sikhs.org/art12.htm.

Blessings.

My information came from a Sikh, he was in a class of my father's. My father asked him privately (well I there, but other students weren't) if he followed all tennets of his religion. He replied that his beard wasn't full yet (he was only a sophmore) but when it filled in that yes, he would be armed and did know how to use it.

It's not that I think Rose isn't a capable adult, it's that she doesn't seem to realize what she's doing/saying sometimes (have you heard some of the "Rose-isms"?)

It is one thing to talk to someone on a plane, where there are witnesses and people can't really go anywhere and another to talk to a beggar on the street, where the people around are constantly changing and he could stuff her in a car and be miles away in a few moments.

Uh, thanks! It's a little startling to check my LJ and find such a strong and direct affirmation, but I appreciate it. Likewise for you . . . I like your new LJ icon, btw.
