I'd say "Get some pics and post them," except your descriptions are so vivid, I'd rather do without the pics. I especially like the suddenly-revealed flint boulders, and the climactic smoke plume.
This has been a good year for grass fires. You getting any rain up there, at all?
Thank you, I'm glad you get something out of my descriptions. I'm afraid of damaging my camera if I bring it on a burn, and it would be an added stress to try and take good pictures. But other people bring their cameras on the burns, and I may come around some day.
There are some pictures on the Konza website (http://www.konza.ksu.edu/). Click on the Image Gallery link, then Fire 1 and Fire 2.
Yes, we finally got some--and snow--in the past few weeks. But we're still in a severe drought.
I find that I don't typically appreciate a picture unless I've experienced the type of setting that it portrays, and even then, I don't feel it fully unless I was actually there. (must be something about memory recall I'm sure)
A picture is worth a thousand words? Not always. Your description conveyed what no picture can. I wish you wrote novels.

...hahaha canti from FLCL...that was my first thought too when I read "the wall of flame was a god bestowing its caustic grace"
and I *almost* counted the words, out of sheer curious compulsion. Then lazyness took over. I still have not..(although tempted), so I'll just take your word for it.
I wasn't sure where in the description to include the detail about bits of ash being blown out from the grass remnants, so I included it in two places and forgot to delete it from one of them.
