Aww. LoL I don't think it's a very big deal. My ex is just Irish and his name is Patrick, so he always got quite offended when I abbreviated it "Patty", because that's a woman's name and the correct way to abbreviate it (in "Irish-speech") is Paddy. You get Paddy out of Patrick because in Irish, Patrick is Padraig (there are more variations on that spelling) and it is pronounced Pau-rick or Paud-rick.
But I suppose if you're not Irish and don't know this, it's really no harm done. :D

One thing, though.. It's St.Paddy's, because Patty's is from a female word "Patty", whereas Paddy is an Irish way of a name Patrick.
