my lj friend mystika (you can find her through my info) has a ferret forum and has some of the biggest weasels I've EVER seen, I asked her for you, and she gave me this link for you to read: http://www.sjferret.com/melatonin.html
I've had ferrets for years, and it is always sad to see them decline this way so quickly. They bring so much joy into our lives..they make us laugh and smile despite ourselves..you are a good mommy, keep up the good work, she knows you care.
Oh Sandi I dont know how you've done it with your weazels..they just bring so much love and laughter & we bond so quickly with them..it is depressing to see all these troubles affect them..hopefully this medication will give her a couple more years to live..Thank you for your concern *hugs*
If you want to go ahead with surgery you could put a paypal donation button on your journal to help with the costs. If everyone put in say 5 bucks, that should at least take a chunk of it. I have helped many people whose animals have needed treatment as I know how damn precious they are! It's somtehing to think about anyway. How much is surgery likely to cost and would it be the best option? Just curious.
That is SUCH a sweet notion Sharon..thank you, I'm overwhelmed with how wonderful you are. BUT the surgery is rather expensive because the adrenal gland is right next to the vena cava & often very dangerous to remove, the adrenal is even sometimes fused to the vena cava. Roughly, the surgery could cost anywhere from 700-900 US Dollars, without complications and there is never any guarantee. The medication Lupron they put ferrets on curbs the hormones being overproduced, but doesnt rule out the possiblity of the chance of cancer in there. She is 5 yrs old going on 6 yrs right now and they live to the max of about 8yrs. The Lupron costs 250 US Dollars per shot that lasts 6 months. If I can save up some money between now and 6 months..surgery is definitely an option..
Putting a donation button would certainly help take a bit of that away at least. I'm sure plenty of people would be willing to help you out, including myself :)
