Question for the LJ Braintrust: Ipod Touch ---pros & cons?

My mom gave me a small chunk of money for Christmas, and I was thinking about getting an ipod touch. Sort of as portable back-up for music and photos, but primarily for being able to google things at the drop of a hat ---the wireless access with no airtime fees is the best part.

Thoughts???

M got one about a month ago and he says he was correct that it was the Exact Right Thing.

It has all kinds of hilarious sexy interface features like when you turn it sideways it turns the picture you were looking at right-side up. (Actually most of the features that I find most hilarious are based on its ability to know its own position and orientation. It has a pinball game that cracks me up.)

I am not aware of any cons so far (30 days in) but I will ask him. Like you, he considers it a pro that there is not a $100/mo phone fee AND nobody can use it to interrupt whatever else he's doing :)

There is also an app by which your iPod Touch can be used as a handbell. :)

There are no downsides. Particularly since some bright lad has rolled out a VOIP-for-Touch.
