*touches the pencils almost reverently* You didn't... I didn't get you anything.

*smiles* That's fine. I wasn't expecting anything.

Gracie: *climbs onto his lap, giggling* Pree! *points out parts of the paper, babbling explanations*

No -- I -- I should get you something. I just don't know how to shop for people. *got Zach a book on computer programing because he couldn't think of anything else*

*smiles at Gracie and tries to interperate what she's saying*

You make my daughter happy. That's enough for me.

Gracie: *says something and promptly bursts into hysterical giggles*

*tenses a little in surprise at the hug* Um. Yeah, it's nice, I suppose. But I expect you to put the book to very good use. The husband will thank me.

Mmmhmmm. If you want to do it the easy way, just start at the beginning and work your way through it. But if some days you feel adventurous, just close your eyes and open it to a random page, then do whatever's on that one. That's always a lot of fun.

A letter appears, attached to Elphaba's door. It is enclosed in an envelope only she can open. The note inside is written in the perfect script customary of Nessa's letters written with her enchanted pen. It says:

My dear sister,
How long it has been since I've seen you! I'm sure you've been keeping busy with your husband and children. I, though unmarried and childless, have been quite busy as well--but I'd rather divulge the details over tea with you. I'm travelling back to the Mansion to visit you soon; I hope you'll be able to spare a moment for your sister.
I just received your beautiful Lurlinemas gift--you're so thoughtful. The shawls match my winter dresses beautifully, and I will wear those lovely scarves when summer comes around.
I look forward to seeing you, Elphaba.
Love,
NessaShe doesn't yet know about being godmother--she'll hear about that when she talks to Elphie ( ... )
