Have you checked to see if there is any wiring in the house that they have "completed"? You may have a ticking time bomb hidden somewhere. Okay, not really ticking, but I think you get the picture.
Maybe they were experts at drywalling (or had their buddies do it) and their other creative efforts are well hidden.

When my parents were refinishing the house they had they discovered some interesting leftovers.
One was the fact they just didn't bother with any foundation under the Bedroom side of the house. Not to mention the fact the plumbing was laid directly on the ground. It stayed there too when they lifted thr e house.
Another was while we were tearing all the old walls from the section. It was added to the house in the late twenties, and power was routed in a few decades later. As we tore one strip of the wall covering off we discovered a nail that went through the wiring. Think of a black, cloth covered bundle of two wires, and the nail miraculously went between the live and ground without arcing for over 60 years.
Needless to say the house was in dire need of severe renovations, which it thankfully got from some very competent people.
