1) The Wild Rover (the Classic drinking/rugby song) I have a heavy metal version by TYR if you want it!
2) The Fields of Athenry (A nice song, unfortunately now an integral part of football bigotry but I guess that is part of Scottish "Culture"!)
3) The Liltin'/The Flowers of the Forest. (A Wonderful lament for the men of Selkirk killed at Flodden) I have it on MP3
4) Virtually anything by Burns should probably go on the list. Something like Green Grow the Rashes O or A Man's a man for a' that.
5) For Scottish culture, I guess there should be some sort of Jacobite song in the mix since rightly or wrongly, the rebellions are ingrained into the Scottish psyche... so something like You Jacobites by name or Johnny Cope or even Killiecrankie.
6) The Twa Corbies. (The Border Ballad most folk have heard of!)

Not sure these are essential to British folk, but these are the songs I'm most likely to be found singing at a campfire...

1. Seven drunken nights
2. Three dirty goblins (to the tune of The Animals Went in 2 by 2)
3. Wild Rover (dirty version)
4. Two Little Boys (nuclear version, I'll post it elsewhere!)
5. She Moved Through the Fair
6. Advice to a Young Maid

Verse
Am Dm Am,Em,Am x2
Dm Am Dm Am,Em
Am Dm Am,Em,Am

Chorus

Hm ... can't quite remember without a guitar in my hands...
maybe something like:

C G C F C
Am G Am,G,Am

Yup, the chords seem just fine to me :) Can't seem to find the three dirty goblins, the two boys, nor the advice to a young maid.. shall try harder! had a look on the three dirty goblins on the web and came upon the website of some student society in Durham -- possibly some legacy you left there?
