Babar? Camus!amanualcuntOctober 20 2008, 16:53:34 UTC
"Mother died today. Or, maybe, yesterday; I can't be sure. The telegram from the Home says: YOUR MOTHER PASSED AWAY. FUNERAL TOMORROW. DEEP SYMPATHY. Which leaves the matter doubtful; it could have been yesterday."
As recompense for Babar's loss, God made him a seasoned safari-er, explorer, and king. Plus, the endings of the books are happy, I'm told. In conclusion, Babar is the shit.
haha yeah, i know. i never read the books, but i watched the cartoon when i was little, so i'm not entirely sure if they were exactly alike. my opinion is biased, though. i've been preconditioned to get upset from all of the walt disney movies i watched as a child. he always offed the mother in the very beginning and i hated that.
i feel that it's also sad because the first story is almost a foreshadowing. jean de brunhoff wrote about babar's adventures based off of a bedtime story he and his wife created for their children. then he died from tuberculosis when his son, laurent, was twelve, whom later went on to make additional contributions to the stories.
