Chevrolet just released a bunch of new info about their upcoming electric car, the Volt, because their patent applications were just awarded so they’re now free to spill the beans! It’s a very interesting design, and also has some people up in arms ( Read more... )

If gods existed, I'd ask them to save us from the sanctimonious pomposity of 'ideologically pure'. Sheesh :-S

Our next car will either be a Smart (sooo cute, and they're proliferating like mad all over Melbourne now, but a bit tricky to afford on our nonexistent budget), one of the tiny Nipponese subcompacts, or possibly even the smallest version of the Toyota RAV4. Given that our mileage is very small anyway, using nonrenewables is still a reasonable option. We'd also consider converting the latter vehicle(s) to LPG (see 'nonexistent budget').

The Volt is a badly - desperately - needed step forward. Now to somehow spread the social meme that HUGE OVERPOWERED BLOATMOBILES ARE EVIL.

Thanks for posting that link A., and Justin, thanks also for posting this - I only caught the media articles talking about how they "lied" and the volt can't do what was promised. Didn't realise it was awesome until you posted.

If I could find an excuse to need a car, a Volt'd be pretty damn tempting right now.

(Also, I had forgotten about LJ)

Wotcha! Funnily enough, we were talking about you last night, and in connection with this very subject - re the concept of hireable purpose-designed 'extra battery trailers' (or 'genny trailers') for urban-dwelling electric car users who'd want to occasionally make longer trips: "It'd be a niche market, but a strong one, because it's just another version of people like G who normally rely on foot, bicycle and PT but who'll hire a car for something like a weekend out of town..." :-)

BTW good to see you finally remembered LJ. I've responded to your add by adding you back. Now if we can get your dozy bro to do the same I won't have to use this ID to communicate here :P

Been very quiet on LJ. I'd like to see that change...
