Oh man, what a plausible--and painful--future. I can see this happening exactly as you describe it. Everyone's in character here, Karen and Lisa and especially Nick. Great job.

Mmm, I'm so glad it worked for you! I was most worried about Nick being in character because I'm not quite sure he's at the point on the show where he'd kiss Karen but I hoped to make his actions somewhat plausible. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing -- writing in a new fandom is nerve wracking :)

LOVE this. Sexy, plausible, and simultaneously hopeful and sad. Thanks for writing this! I've been hankering for hot (but realistic) Nick/Karen --

So glad you enjoyed it! There is an incredible lack of fanfic for this show but hopefully this winter hiatus will kick people into gear. I think Nick and Karen are both hopeful and sad, because there's so much chemistry and/or potential but at the expense of Nick's already crumbling marriage -- either way, thanks for reading/reviewing!

This was great, Jules.

From what we've seen of Karen so far, Nick is the only one who can get her to open up. So I loved that scene between the two of them and the kiss was wonderful and perfect.

“I thought I lost you.” Wow. I loved that line and the meaning behind it.

Plus, any story that mentions Derek Jeter is good in my book - especially surprising that you mentioned a Yankee and not a Met ;)

Yay, thanks so much for reading and commenting!! I totally believe that Nick feels he sees another side of Karen that most people don't and that fuels his need to protect her -- I think that's a big reason why he can't just shut her down out right. I'm glad you liked the ending too ... I was slightly worried it'd be too heavy handed :)

I almost put David Wright in instead of Derek Jeter but Derek's got more name recognition and he seemed more of the type to be at a Darling-esque party :)

I'm not a N/K fan yet I like this because it feels very realistic. I did like the J/L part as well since it feels like it did on the show - friendly with an undercurrent of something that happens when they are under the influence.

“There you are,” Lisa exclaims and she’s as drunk as he is. “I thought I lost you.”

Nick smiles and hands her one of the champagne flutes. They cheers and Nick thinks, I think I’ve lost myself.
That's perfect.

Jeremy and Lisa have SUCH chemistry -- I hope the writers noticed it because the idea of Lisa getting to know the Darlings is really intriguing. So glad you enjoyed it!

I think Nick genuinely is bemused by the Darlings and how over the top they are; the problem being that he just gets more and more caught up in their schemes and then Lisa and Kiki are left missing them. Hard place and a rock for Nick.

So glad you liked even without being a Nick and Karen shipper!
