This week has gone by incredibly quickly. But that's okay, I've been on top of my game, rehearsals are going swimmingly--in fact, my two leads both seem really happy and they have their roles down so well I'm amazed. I've just been bouncing through work every day, in spite of some really strange and dreary weather we've been having. I never ( Read more... )

I turn with a mug of coffee when I hear another teacher enter the room.

"Hi, Taffy!" I say, enthusiatically. "First chance I've had for a break all day. It's been a busy week!"

"Oh! Oh dear, I didn't mean to startle you--" I say, setting down my cup and hurrying over to help clean up the spill. I grab some napkins and blot up some coffee that's dripping onto the floor. "I guess you must have had other things on your mind. I've been the same way today, practically walking into walls because my mind is off in the clouds."

"Really? You mean outside of rehearsals? That is a little odd," I hadn't given it much thought during rehearsals of course--half the time I forgot their names, too, when they were in character. Hmm, perhaps I shouldn't have given the spell that last, little boost.

"Well," I say, "I'll look into it and see if there's anything I can do to alleviate the problem. It's not really appropriate for them to stay in character in their other classes." I pick up my coffee and take a sip.

I hesitate. Okay, she did just spill coffee on her shirt, that would be disconcerting for her, but she really does seem like she might be upset about something else. Maybe boyfriend troubles?

"Oh, when you see Jordan, would you please thank him for putting in a good word for me to Mr. Finch? We're going to have an overture for our play after all, and I doubt it would have happened without his help." There, I opened the floor if she wants to talk, without being intrusive.

I'm not thrilled with the knowing sort of look she's giving me, but I'm not going to push it here. I might just have to look into Taffy's background, and find out just what she has up her sleeve.

"I agree, I certainly don't want to be the next woman he ends up bitching about in a bar," I say icily. "I have to get to my next class, unless you have anything else you want to add?"
