One good thing about the play being canceled is that I now have plenty of time to bone up on my magical skills. I'm really stuck on exactly why my spell on Jordan didn't work. I've been studying Stefan's protection charm, assuming Jordan's is similar, but I can't get a handle on exactly how it works. Nor can I seem to add any sort of enchantment to

I turn and gape at Taffy. Not only is she the last person I want to see right now, but she's caught me in an irritable mood. She's right, magic wouldn't hold up in court, but half of what happened had nothing to do with my spell anyway. "Excuse me? I'm somehow responsible for a wild dog appearing out of nowhere? Not to mention the utter incompetence of the security staff...some of those students had lethal weapons on them, on school property. Those were certainly not props!"

I stare at her icily. So Jordan ran off and told her about the talisman? Oh well, she couldn't prove a thing, and the talisman was gone in any case. "I don't know what you're talking about. The talisman was there to protect the play, nothing more. I grew up in this town, strange things happen all the time, especially to school events. Apparently I wasn't powerful enough to prevent the usual disaster, but I certainly didn't make the students think anything."
