The borrowed energy wore off after a couple of days, even though I barely used it. Rack didn't seem to mind my showing up again, he called me deliciously brazen, the creepy man. I get up off the ground in a hurry. She doesn't worry me as much since I have the magic, but there's no point in giving her a clean shot if she decides to punch me again. "Just figuring out where the hell you came from," I say. "That wasn't supposed to happen." I pick up the scrying glass--I really have no reason I need to be here, now.

Grr, she's not going to give me anything more, the bitch. "I know one thing--I know you had a lot more power when you were a ghost. Might be a mistake to try and send you back." My fist flies open, and an arc of energy leaps toward her. Payback for the lightning bolt.

I feel a measure of satisfaction when I see her go down. Doesn't quite make up for the weeks of dogging my steps, but it does feel good. But then the wind whips up in a way that's all too familiar, and hovering over her, I see a flash--a woman, just like I'd seen the night of the lightning.

Taffy! Shit! There's a sort of sparkly glow over the redhead for a second and then it's gone, but I know...that wasn't good. I glance at the sky, thinking I should really get my ass out of here, but my feet don't move right away.
