Sad Sad Day

Jul 27, 2006 04:16

Today will surely mark a day in History. A day that our children’s children will remember, a day of insult, a day of tears and anger, and a day when once again discrimination and hate our practiced by those we entrust to represent and protect us, our families, and our pursuit of the American dream ( Read more... )

This is my house Derrick. If you come over to my house, you have to follow the rules. No drinking period. No rated R movies until you're 17, no PG-13 until you are 13. Curfew is early and if you break it by more than 2 minutes, you're screwed. No cursing. No eating food on the couch. You have to stay quiet upstairs till noon. Anyone who comes over has to obey the rules, anyone born here has to also.
But guess what? If you don't like it, move to a different house.
See the parallel? Not all countries in the world will be the same. So, move to the one you like best.

I shouldnt have to feel like an outcast in a country that was created on the values of equality and justice for all its people... The people who are elected to represent the people should protect the people and grant them all fair and equal treatment, even when it might be the unpopular thing to do... I shouldnt have to move away from a country where I am suppose to be treated equaly.

I am insulted!! You can't blame all straight people for the inequalities in society! You of all people should know that for the most part, our society is controlled by rich white men. I may be white, but I'm not rich, nor am I a man. I agree that people should stand up for what they believe in! I believe that church and state need to be separated completely. I agree that Bush is a bumbling idiot and Cheney leads him around like a puppy. But you know what I don't agree with? I don't agree that just because you are a minority member and feel that you have been treated unfairly that that gives you the right to take it out on the rest of us. If you have an issue, work it out with the people that made the decision. I know that WA upholding the ban is a huge disappointment to you and millions of other gay citizens around the country, but think how close it was!! 5-4!!!!! You have to understand that that in itself is amazing. Some people may look at that and say, "We were so close," when in reality, you're so much closer than ( ... )

I forgot to say one thing:
I know it's a cliche, but it's true that anything worth having is worth fighting for. The more you have to fight for equality, the more you'll appreciate it once it's a reality. There are 4 stages of recognition for minority groups: 1-invisibility, where the group is not recognized in popular media and therefore doesn't exist to the majority; 2-ridicule, where they are only present as token characters like the corpse on CSI or the druggie on Law & Order; 3-reinforcement, where they play positive characters like cops and teachers; and 4-respect, where they have the same rights and receive the same treatment as the majority group. The more resentment and hatred you feel now, and the harder you work for what you want, the sweeter it will be when you get it. Just don't climb over people and hurt others to get there.

I am truly sorry if I insulted you. I am not upset at heterosexuals... I was just posing a question as to why some of them think they can dictate how we live our lives, or make comments they know nothing about... I do helo out in my community... I vounteer for the HRC, and Equal Rights Washington, I go to protests and write letters to our elected officials, and withmy newley elected position I will work every minute to educate people about ignorance and discrimination facing our country. I really was not trying to be mean...I was just asking questions...that were suppose to come off with that tone... Otherwise I agree with everything else.

It's ok, I'm not actually upset. I just like to rant.

Dirk,
First off. Wonderful Post. I totally agree with everything in it. Not only should gays or members of the LGBT community be allowed to marry, but it should be accepted in this country, as it is in other countries. However Derrick, with the right wing conservatives in power, this won't happen. Why? Because President Bush is a dumb ass, and his entire cabinet is full of Neo Conservatives who assume that religion and government play hand in hand always. They don't, as you and I know. So, you have my total support, and if you need any help in your fight, you know who to call.
