I don't get polaroids, or why they are so hip. But I'm not very hip, so maybe that's the problem. I like your photos for the way they are framed and the subject. But I don't think the medium is what makes them cool. A lot of the polaroids I see seem to get attention more because they were taken on polaroid film, and that's supposed to be nostalgic, not because they are actually good photos. But art is subjective. What do I know?
You do well with a square. Maybe you should try a medium format camera.
I agree that the anomalies in expired film often make a ho-hum picture look a lot cooler than it really is. It can make a great picture really dreamy though. I agree with your sentiments completely. I'm more critical of the lighting/subject/composition than I am for effects of the film that the photographer has no control over.
