Spoilery post is spoilery

The Good Wife
Yesterday's episode has been so hyped that I thought it would make it lose some of its impact, but nope! I could not tear my eyes away, every single scene was the worst/best.

I watched it this morning before work for fear of being spoiled, and afterwards, as I sat there shell-shocked, I read this post-mortem and I got this URGE to write an LJ post, but by that time I was already late for work so instead this thing has just been churning in my head all day.

Like the fact that when this whole Florrick Agos thing came up I was really excited about the tensions that it would bring up, but what I didn't expect was for this episode to make me root whole-heartedly for the Lockhart Gardner side of this equation. I found Alicia AWFUL in this episode. Until now I haven't really taken any sides because I feel like even though the whole "we have to wait for bonuses" thing has been slimy, at least Alicia's been against it. But in one fell swoop, she ruined any goodwill I had towards her and her new firm. (Though to be fair, I think the worst thing she did was the creepy sex thing with Peter. I could forgive pretty much everything else, but ugh, not fucking Peter.)

I think the worst thing about that article I linked above was a quote by one of the showrunners (?) where he said "We ran the course on the love triangle". Now, I would be fine if that meant that Will and Alicia are over (even though deep down, I still 'ship them), but if this means that Peter is the final choice and he and Alicia are back together for good? I may have to quit the show, no matter how awesome it is right now. I cannot imagine a worse fate for this show than them having Peter and Alicia stay married. Every second she stays with him, I lose more of my respect for Alicia.

And hey, speaking of Peter, isn't it nice to see that he's still the same old sleezoid he always was (and apparently Alicia gets off on it. UGH!)? The only good thing about the whole "revoking Diane's judgeship" (AFTER SHE REFUSED TO TESTIFY EVEN! ASSHOLE!!!!!!) is that Diane will now be able to stay with Will at the firm. (I'm actually more invested in her relationship with Will than Alicia's.)

There are a few things I find encouraging:

  • In spite of the awful way she acted this episode, the breakdown in the elevator does give me hope that my first read of the situation was correct: Alicia agreed to join the new firm with Cary because she wanted to make sure she could never ever again be tempted by Will. Like, betraying him is her insurance plan for her marriage to succeed.
  • There is some heavy foreshadowing about Peter cheating on Alicia before the end of the season. All his other slimy traits came back out in this episode, shouldn't take long for the cheating to start again.

I only hope that I'm not imagining these things. I've seen others say the same thing, so I can't be too off base, right? Unless the writers are in a completely different headspace, in which case I'm not sure how I'll be able to stomach this show for the duration.
