Yes to the scarf patterns- I currently have Scarf Style out from the library and it is full of gorgeous patterns that are easily adaptable. I can lend it to you to look over.

I've done more knitting now than I have in a long time. I think it's correlated with the mountain of work I have to do.

There may also be a correlation with Spike's daily CSI marathons...

We'll have to talk some time, but I've been thinking intently about earflap toques. Definitely some kind of edging is in order to stop it from curling all over the place.

Earflaps really aren't that difficult. You either knit them first and then incorporate them in the first row of the hat body, or you knit the hat and then pick up stitches to knit them afterwards.
