back in Canada

So I'm back in Canada, in Toronto. Culture shock took the form of once-overs and smirks by Torontonians who rejected my clothing that was rejected by value village, sent to Africa, and bought in a Ugandan market by me. I bought all new clothes. Also, having something to eat other than mashed bananas and goat rocks. Also, white girls are cute ( Read more... )

Welcome back, mzungu! What're goat rocks? (Sorry, I don't have anything useful to say about CBC.)

And here I am in Victoria, waiting for your glorious presence, and you move to Toronto? Yeesh.

As for cbc.ca, so much of their stuff isn't original to them. I get the same wording on the ctv site, you know? I go through 6 online newspapers a day (seriously, I love the news), and I find that cbc.ca is one of the least reliable for reporting quickly on big events. For example, after hearing about Korea in the Japanese papers, I turned to the New York Times to find out what was going on. The New York Times was quick to provide an analysis of the situation, not just the info that there was a test. I'll even turn to the BBC before I'll go to the CBC, and I love the CBC. Also, if they could just put the Vinyl Cafe on as a podcast, I'd be thrilled.

My only beef with CBC.ca is that they keep hiring reporters that use their blogs to gather material and opinions for their articles...

I mean.... they should use a new font for their titles. Yeah.

Just kidding. Good luck.

(I'd give you actual input, but I can’t read)

What's really frustrating is how with the lead story on their front page the entire thing is a hyper link, including the Headline, the leader, and the "More" thing.

That pisses me off.

I agree with that guy. The text is too small. And holy fixed size boxes with hidden overflow batman. If you try to increase the text size, the text in all those little 'feature' boxes overflows and disappears. This would really suck on a high resolution laptop.

And I know there might still be some grannies with 800x600 screens out there, but come on. If they made it for 1024x768 the small screen peeps still have the horizontal scroll bar, and then they could increase the text size. This would help the general clutter too.

Also, maybe I missed this, but it's difficult to read old stories. Say you've been unplugged for a little while, maybe you went to africa or something, and you now you want to catch up. Well you can't even list the headlines from the past week let alone 4 months.
