I must say, that is a very interesting observation you have come to. And I agree with you, for the most part. There was one thing that you said about acting that I don't think is completely true, and that is this: "the trick to acting is to 'abandon yourself,' that is to lose the inhibitions you have about yourself". I believe that acting is more about finding the right moments and feelings within yourself needed for the character and then leaving what is not needed from your own "character" in the back of your mind, until the right character for those moments comes along. So in essence, I'm basically saying that with each character you find yourself more than abandon yourself. I guess I got that idea from an acting book I've read parts of by Uta Haugen. It's called Respect for Acting. Very interesting book, you might want to try reading some of it :) Anyway, so if my theory has any truth to it about acting, then it becomes more like hypnosis than before because they both require recalling specific moments or feelings in life to work
