1. Do you download music not from the popular genres of Top 40, pop, rock, rap, dance, R&B, or country?
i hate "genres" of music. seems to me like the lines are getting more and more blurred between them, and like none of them have a clear definition. "pop", for instance - supposedly "popular music". yet what people think of as pop isn't the most popular type of music at the moment - what's the most popular now is more of the "rock" variety. though of course, "rock" is such a broad genre because there are so many different types of "rock" music. it's all a bit silly.
anyway, no.
2. Are there any musicians for whom you've downloaded a significant amount of their material yet own few or none of their albums?
i don't really download much, and when i do, it's off itunes, and i think the point of this question is have you liked an artist enough to download a lot of their music without actually deciding they deserve to be payed for it. however, i have an awful lot of albums on my computer that i copied from someone else. i must admit that from what i consider my favourite artists, i've bought very little, if any of their music. easyworld, dresden dolls, silverchair, blink 182, king adora...the list goes on. i copied it all. actually, i have bought a few individual songs from dresden dolls and easyworld, but that's it.
i guess how you define significant really. well, i have copied six blink albums, four silverchair albums, four guns n roses albums...i guess that's significant amounts.
3. Have you ever enjoyed a downloaded album so much that you went and bought the physical album?
i'm going to continue to answer this from the 'copied' perspective. no i haven't. however, i do fully intend to purchase most, if not all of the albums i already have on my computer from the above mentioned artists, and other albums that i really appreciate.
4. How many different ways of playing music do you own (such as radio, stereo system, computer, Walkman/Discman, mp3 player, mp3-ready phone, etc.)?
computer, ipod, radio, cassette player, cd player.
5. Do you still have and/or play a favorite vinyl album, cassette tape, or 8-track tape?
i met a boy on holiday once a few years back. we just seemed to click and got on really well (on a purely friends basis). afterwards, we wrote to each other pretty regularly for about a year. one time, he made and sent me a mix tape. i still listen to that from time to time.
oh, and we have a tape that has debussy's clair de lune on, and i can listen to that over and over. actually, i need to get that piece on my computer. that way i won't have to go to the tape player and rewind it all the time, i can just put it on repeat.
